HHA/Sotheby's Restoration Award 2012 - Commendation

Kay Pilsbury Thomas Architects, Radwinter, have won a Commendation in the HHA/Sotheby’s Restoration Award 2012 for restoration work to Spains Hall, Finchingfield, for Sir Tim and Lady Rosemary Ruggles-Brise and The Spains Hall Partnership.
Spains Hall, Finchingfield, a Grade I Listed Country House, built in 1475, was originally a timber framed Hall House; and has been home to the Ruggles-Brise family for over 250 years. Extensive conservation repair works and change of use to a Wedding and Event venue were carried out between 2007 and 2011, revealing the incredible history of this house; whilst retaining, divulging and conserving the important architectural features and fabric.
A full historic recording of the building was undertaken. Proposals then involved clever ways of hiding modern services whilst revealing many individual historic elements which were preserved for future generations to enjoy.
