She qualified in 1998 with a BSc (Distinction) in Architecture and a Diploma in Architecture from the University of North London.

She has broad project experience including: conversions and extensions to listed buildings, education and new build residential projects.

She was a founding member and Director of a new Hertford Architects practice.

While working with historic buildings she developed an appreciation of the skill and craftsmanship of their construction and the material qualities of the historic fabric, which lead her to working with KPT.

She has attended the well-known Repair Courses at the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB).

She endeavours to create design solutions that form a dialogue between the existing building, new interventions and the surroundings; preserving the character of the traditional forms, materials and details, while adapting and enhancing space to serve the needs of contemporary life.

Melanie attended and completed The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), Building Conservation and Advanced Building Conservation Courses.
