Cambridgeshire Manor House

Standing proudly beside the River Granta, this fascinating Grade II listed property demonstrates how modern living standards can be achieved in a sensitive historic context.  The core of the house is a medieval aisled hall – a rarity in Cambridgeshire, and possibly dates from the 14th Century.

The project involved comprehensive repairs to the timber frame, with lime plastering to the external walls and traditional clay peg tiles on the roof.  A sustainable future for the house has been assured with the addition of thermal insulation, a new heating system, and new bathrooms on the upper floors.  The coup de grace is a delightful oak framed extension which links the house with its grounds.  Grafted carefully into the Victorian garden wall, the extension provides tantalising glimpses of a new glasshouse in the walled garden beyond.
