Manor House Extension
Broadoaks Manor is a beautiful Grade II* listed 16th Century moated manor house. It was built by a wealthy Roman Catholic family who suffered persecution during the reign of Elizabeth I. As a result, the house has a well documented history and a genuine Priest Hole was discovered beneath the hearth of the chapel fireplace.
The project at Broadoak Manor involved a complete renovation of the house interior including new electrics, plumbing, bathrooms, kitchen, decoration and essential repairs to the fabric, such as the stone windows which were reinstated with leaded lights and brickwork. There were also a number of major joinery items that we designed, such as a grand oak staircase that rises from the ground floor to the attic floor. The design of the staircase is based on a late 16th century design and the turnings of the newels and balusters were all hand finished.
An unsympathetic 1960’s garage block to the west was demolished and replaced with a brick building, which utilised the stone window and door detailing found on the house, to providing a light and airy day room.
