Marta Castrillo

Senior Conservation Architectural Technologist and Designer

Marta graduated from Burgos University with a BSc (Hons) in Architectural Technology and a MSc in Conservation of Buildings at Anglia Ruskin University. She is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT)

She has over 22 years of experience in Architecture, Design, Construction and Conservation. The last 8 years at KPT have provided her an ample and wealthy knowledge of the requirements and idiosyncrasies of working with listed buildings and conservation projects of all sizes; ecclesiastical and domestic. Two of her projects reflect her versatility; the internal re-ordering of the prominent Grade I Church of St Mary, Saffron Walden. At St Mary’s she designed and oversaw the creation of beautiful bespoke joinery, which brought much needed facilities to the Church. Awarded “Highly Commended Design Award” by the Dioceses of Chelmsford. And the reinstatement of a 1933 vernacular façade of “calicanto” (round stone masonry set in lime mortar) of a farmhouse in northern Spain.

Eager to get “hands-on” in conservation she joins other volunteers on SPAB Working Parties. Autor of “De la Arquitectura Popular a la Arquitectura Formal”, a book on early C20 Spanish rural vernacular buildings.

Marta attended and completed The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), Building Conservation and Advanced Building Conservation Courses
