Georgian House Renovation and Extensions

This Grade II Listed parapetted house, constructed of timber frame, plastered with pargetting, and dating from late C.18th, suffered from a large fire over a decade ago and has largely been rebuilt. We removed the badly cracked cement render and re-rendered using lime, enabling the structure to breathe, preventing further deterioration of the frame. Each elevation of the original house was pargetted, as was traditional to the area, to help define between the new and old, as well as bringing this substantial house back to its original glory.

The house required updating to make it more amenable to C.21st family living. We designed an underground cinema and games room basement, and a single storey Orangery extension. The basement has a ‘green’ roof, continuing the lawned area up to the Orangery, which is of lime rendered timber frame construction with a parapet; and was designed to complement the existing house. The sash windows match the house, but with semi-circular heads, characteristic of Orangeries. Internally, the Basement is accessed through a new staircase from the Orangery.

We converted the second floor attic of the house to accommodate two guest bedrooms, a bathroom and children’s playroom. Four king posts, which survived the fire, have been made into features in these rooms.

We also completely refurbished the 1990s Pool House extension, adding a skylight window and replacing doors and windows to match those of the house.
